--Private areas are protected. This means that scenes may take place in these areas without interruption unless said interruption has a very good reason. Private areas are defined as any area that can be bolted, has no typical IC use and does not have any cameras. The dormitories and their holodecks are examples of Private areas. RP IS MORE IMPORTANT THAN ERP AND NOT DOING YOUR JOB IS A PERFECTLY GOOD REASON FOR SOMEONE TO INTERRUPT YOUR SCENE.

--Secluded areas are semi-protected. ERP taking place in a secluded area may be interrupted by someone with access to that area or if someone happens to witness it, if they feel that they should; if you get caught here (including by camera, such as by the AI), you're likely to be asked to move it somewhere private. Secluded areas are places that require specific access to reach, may have closed privacy shutters or tinted windows, and have cameras. The psych office with its windows tinted, the kitchen with its shutters down, and hidden maintenance rooms are examples of secluded areas. If a character is witnessed performing heinous acts or if there is evidence of such acts in a secluded area (such as bloody clothing or weapons, dismembered limbs or a corpse), it is to be treated as a public area for the purpose of interaction.

--Public areas are not protected. Anybody can (and probably should) roleplay intervention on a scene taking place in an a public area. If a player happens across one of these and don't want to interrupt but also don't want to see it, that player should use LOOC to ask them to move. Hallways, the bar, the elevator, the tram station and any place that can be reached by a Visitor without breaking regulations are public areas.

--Bolting a door to a public area or disabling its cameras does not make an area secluded or private, it will just annoy the engineers and make officers curious.

As stated in the Rules, ERP is not the focus of the server, but it is allowed and protected under specific circumstances. This page is here to help you determine when and where it is appropriate to engage in ERP. Everything on this page should be considered an extension of the server rules, and will be enforced by server administration.

  • Your job comes first. If you are playing a role that has specific duties on the vessel, such as Engineer or Aegis Operative. those duties must always take priority over ERP.
    • It is expected that you will take steps to ensure that you are able to be reached should an emergency arise. The easiest method of this is by simply leaving your radio headset on and active.
    • This rule is doubly important for Heads of Staff, and any roles that are expected to respond to emergencies. However even if you are a Deckhand/Vagabond, it should not be disregarded.
    • If you are an antagonist, or are made one during the round, completing contracts is considered "a specific duty" for the purpose of these rules. Antagonists are meant to drive conflict in a round, and if you are not completing contracts, then you are negatively impacting the round.
  • There are three "classes" of area where scenes might occur, these are called "Private," "Secluded," and "Public."
    • Private Areas are areas that can be bolted, have no specific IC use, and are obviously not an area where just anyone can walk in on. Areas like the Bar Private Rooms and Heads of Staff quarters are examples of these areas.
      • ERP may occur in these areas, and will not be interrupted without a solid reason.
    • Secluded Areas are areas that could be considered "semi-private." These are areas that cannot be specifically locked, but can reasonably be expected to offer some privacy, but also present the risk of accidental interruption, such as by someone with access moving through in the course of their duties. Areas such as hidden maintenance rooms, the Public Dorms, or the Psychiatrist's office are examples of "Secluded areas."
      • ERP may occur in these areas, however interruptions may occur, and admins are less likely to intervene in such interruptions except when malicious intent is suspected. If you are caught ERPing in a Secluded area, you may be asked to move the activity to a more private area.
    • Public Areas are all areas that do not fall into the above descriptions, and you can reasonably be expected to be interrupted at any time. If a deckhand can reach the area, it is most likely a public space.
      • ERP is not protected in these spaces at all. Anybody can (and probably should) roleplay intervention on a scene taking place in an a public area. If a player happens across one of these and don't want to interrupt but also don't want to see it, that player should use LOOC to ask them to move. (Note: Bolting a door to a public area or disabling its cameras does not make an area secluded or private, it will just annoy the engineers and make officers curious.)
