You are expected to hold yourself to certain standards here when it comes to character creation and your interactions on server. For guidance, see: Character Guidelines.
 +
<br>
 +
* 1.1) All rounds are canon, unless stated otherwise by an admin. A specific situation within a round may be declared non-canon if all players involved agree. Antagonists are an exception to this rule, and are detailed in section 5, below.
 +
* 1.2) You are expected to RP first and foremost, and to uphold the suspension of disbelief and play a character that could believably be found in a semi-realistic science fiction setting. Furry characters and odd aliens are allowed, as are humans.
 +
* 1.3) Name your character appropriate for an HRP server. Reference names are allowed, if you're clever enough about it. If we can readily discover your reference, it wasn't clever enough and you will be forced to change it. This is not an excuse for Low RP.
 +
* 1.4) Do not break immersion for other players. While SS13 can and does sometimes play fast and loose with the “Fourth Wall,” that doesn’t mean you have to.
 +
* 1.5) You are encouraged to build cross round relationships with other characters, you are allowed to remember each other between rounds.
 +
** 1.5.1)  If your character dies during the round and is not revived in-game, you may choose to be restored from a “backup” stored on the ship, though your character will not remember the events of the round in question.
 +
** 1.5.2) Do not OOCly meta-grudge other players, or let your OOC feelings for a player affect your IC actions. Do not escalate to lethal as a result of events from past rounds; it must have grounding in IC reasoning from the current round.
 +
* 1.6) Do not commit suicide as a means to exit the round. If you feel that suiciding is a justified reaction to something occurring in a round, please ask for permission from staff.
 +
* 1.7) A base level of competency in your selected job is expected. This does not mean you need to be “good” at your job, but your competency, or lack  thereof should not directly put the ship or crew at risk. A captain who  panics under fire is acceptable, an engineer who unintentionally delaminates the Supermatter is not.
 +
* 1.8) You are expected to do the job you signed up to do. This is especially important for roles whose jobs directly impact the progression of the round, like engineering and medical, or command roles, who will be looked to in an emergency to provide guidance. While situations during the round can of course prevent you from doing it, intentionally abandoning your duty, or refusing to do your job without a solid reason is not allowed.

<span style="font-size:1.2em;"> 2) Abusing In-Game Mechanics.</span>
 +
The use of exploits, bugs, or quirks of the mechanics of SS13 to gain an unfair advantage over other players.
 +
<br>
 +
* 2.1) Do not IC in OOC, do not OOC in IC.
 +
* 2.2) Do not make use of exploits. If you find an exploit, report it immediately.
 +
* 2.3) Do not interfere with SSD or AFK (Sudden Sleep Disorder or Away From Keyboard) players in any way unless you are an antagonist with an objective that specifically targets the person. It is recommended that you move any SSD crewmen to either Cryostorage or the dorms. Do not pull hostile mobs to SSD's intentionally, and do not move them out of shelter once they are safe.
 +
** 2.3.1) If you need to leave the game or AFK for longer than 30 minutes, it is recommended that you place yourself in Cryostorage, as not doing ties up job slots for others who may wish to play, and can mess with antagonist objectives. This is doubly important if you  are playing a role with limited (three or fewer) job slots, such as Aegis Specialists, or Heads of Staff.
 +
** 2.3.2) If you are an antagonist and your target is SSD, it is required that you notify an admin via Ahelp of the situation before acting on it. If it is not clearly obvious that the target has left the round (i.e. they're not in a bed, or were active a short time ago) then you must wait for an admin response, or until it's clear that the target isn't returning.
 +
* 2.4) Do not use your knowledge of game mechanics to intentionally ruin the enjoyment of other players indirectly.
 +
* 2.5) Do not ghost, log out or suicide to avoid roleplay after being captured by an antagonist or by Aegis, being captured is a risk you take when playing on server, and you must be prepared to deal with it. If you do not wish to engage in roleplay with those that have captured you, you may make a request in LOOC to be executed instead.
 +
* 2.6) Do not respawn as the same character once your character has been killed, do not respawn as any relation or friend of your dead character as an excuse to continue escalation once your character has been killed.
 +
* 2.7) Actions that would leave a player with no way to be revived are prohibited unless you are a traitor whose objectives demand it.

<span style="font-size:1.2em;"> 3) Escalation Guidelines.</span>
*The violation will always be seen in the context of events that came before it. Usually the responsibility lies with the creator of the situation.
+
Guidelines to follow when it's time to fight.
*Complete isolation of the player without the ability to get out is equivalent to killing.
+
<br>
*Forcefully mindswapping with someone is also equivalent to killing.
+
* 3.0) Escalation of violence is the expectation that you, as a player on a roleplaying server, will engage in / react to  violence in a manner  that is believable and proportionate to the situation, and not simply kill everyone who crosses you like an unhinged psychopath.
*The infliction of grievous harm, as a result of which the victim spent a long (half an hour or more) time in the medical bay, is punishable by a term of half the murder in a similar situation.
+
** 3.0.1) The rules on escalation of violence are here to ensure that our server can maintain the highest standard of roleplay. While they may not be appropriate to every situation or engagement, you should try to follow them where possible. Talking out encounters is always going to be more interesting than shooting them out, and gives other players a chance to get involved and take their own sides. This is doubly true for Aegis Security players.
*If you doubt your right to use lethal force, ask the administration. You cannot be punished for the violence that the administrator allowed.
+
* 3.1) Escalation of violence is recommended in all situations, regardless of faction. You are here to roleplay, not click each other horizontal. Murder should always be your last resort, not your immediate answer to any threat. In short, do not valid hunt and do not gank people.
*Conflict with an adequate reason, which was played out during 15-20 minutes of the round (minimum), is considered to be a long-term conflict. At the same time, a conflict with the entire station or the entire Ironhammer department cannot be considered an excuse.
+
* 3.2) Escalation is maintained between encounters. However, you should make it clear that you are re-engaging. You should not break away from an engagement, and re-engage wordlessly several minutes later to gain an advantage.
*At the same time, an adequately played long-term conflict is not considered if:
+
* 3.3) For more in depth guidelines on escalation, use of force, and appropriate response, see Escalation.
**Someone just walked into the area.

**You do not like how someone dresses.

**Someone does not do their job as you would like.

*An adequate reason for killing could be:

**Someone ran into the arsenal and is actively touching lethal weapons.

**Someone has Excelsior armor, during the uprising of Excelsior.

**Someone is trying to blow up the whole ship.

*Some mechanics, such as sanity, can provide you with reason to assault one person even while not being an antag. However, make sure it will not escalate in lethal conflict with whole crew, as you will be punished for that.

*When you have an antag role - you are allowed to kill people as much as you need, provided they are not your allies. But you don't need to be asshole about it, don't murder whole server on low population, for example. It's totally not fun for others.

<span style="font-size:1.2em;"> 4) Confinement and Capturing.</span>
 +
You've taken your hostage, you caught the bad guy, now what?
 +
<br>
 +
* 4.1) If you have captured someone, you are expected to roleplay with them or get them to an area where they can be processed accordingly (for example, the Aegis Brig, the Merc ship, etc).
 +
** 4.1.1) You may not leave someone confined to an area alone for an extended period of time. If you intend to force them to perform a boring, repetitive task, you must ensure that there is someone present with them to roleplay with. Failure to comply with this standard is against the spirit of the server. An exemption can be made if the party OOCly approves of being left alone or to complete repetitive tasks, if you do not gain their consent - consider letting them go or finding a more appropriate end to their story.
 +
** 4.1.2) If Aegis deems it necessary to permanently brig a player, permission must by obtained by an administrator to enact the sentence. If permission is not granted, execution is the alternative. A player can request in LOOC to be executed rather than be permanently brigged. Based on the administrator's judgement, a player that is permabrigged or executed can be knocked down a rank in their department, or booted from that department entirely. (A player can also choose to do this to themselves!)
 +
** 4.1.3) It is expected that the detainee must not break in-character immersion by engaging in bad sportsmanship or low-roleplay misbehavior. If you make it clear you have no intention to roleplay out the encounter you open yourself up to field execution depending on severity.

Your speech should correspond to the role played, and not your usual chat behavior. Ideally, it should match the way the characters in films and books speak. Internet slang, emoticons and text abbreviations are prohibited, your characters speak in a voice.

*Do not break the immersion, do not act out something that goes against the background and lore.
+
For when it is time to be a Ne'er-Do-Well.
*When using flavor text (character descriptions), it is forbidden to write a story, character, etc. Only appearance.
+
<br>
*Do not use names of celebrities (Adolf Hitler) and too popular characters (Luke Skywalker). You may play some not very popular heroes of books and films, but it is best to ask the administration in advance. Also, your name should not disturb the atmosphere and should not be too meme (Chad Wojak).
+
* 5.1) Antagonists should take the time to read over the Escalation Guidelines again. Player antagonists are held to the higher roleplay standards than other crew, as they often serve as the driving force of that round's story. The point of being an antagonist isn't necessarily to win; it's to make the round more interesting for everyone involved. Make a murder mystery for security, cause random issues for Engineering, hold the ship's research data at ransom to pay for your drain economy objective. Use your imagination, and have fun.
*Communicate correctly. It is difficult to talk about any role atmosphere in general, when adult characters, the crew of the spacecraft, talk like sixth graders at a break. Try to make as few mistakes as possible, and speak a language that is pleasant to read. It does not matter whether the server language is native to you or not, equal demands are made on everyone.
+
* 5.2) If you are made into an antagonist during the round, suicide to escape roleplay is not permitted. Man Up, And Deal With It. Move On. If you absolutely cannot handle it, this probably isn't the right server for you.
 +
** 5.2.1) If you are converted by Excelsior during the round, you may use their teleporter to “mobilize” yourself as a means to leave the round if you do not wish to play as an Antagonist.
 +
** 5.2.2) Excelsior implants are mind control, and make your character an enthusiastic participant in the communist revolution, this is a non-negotiable requirement, as attempting to undermine the implants, or work against Excelsior after being converted is poor roleplay and will be met with strict admin intervention.
 +
* 5.3) Antagonists are considered “Fuzzy-Canon.” This means that the events of the round are canon, but the individual players may not be. For example, if Joe the bartender is made into an Excelsior, who you later kill. You may remember killing a bartender who turned out to be an Excelsior traitor, but it was NOT Joe.
 +
** 5.3.1) An exception to this is if the Antagonist declares that these actions are canon in OOC. In this case normal rules of Canon apply.
 +
** 5.3.2) In the event of a total antagonist victory, such as Excelsior rebels taking over the ship, or a Carrion killing or converting everyone aboard. The round shall be declared non-canon, though individual  scenes may be remembered if all participants agree.
 +
* 5.4) Your antagonist role is your job, and as explained both in rule 1.8 and 9.5, it is expected that this job comes first. Of course the need for caution if you are trying not to be discovered means you may need to take roundabout methods, but you should be working towards a goal.

Roleplaying is, after all, an exercise in the fine art of communication.
 +
<br>
 +
* 6.1) While this is an English speaking server, you are allowed to speak other languages in character.
 +
* 6.2) If you are unable to communicate in English OOCly, you will be disinvited from the server.
 +
* 6.3) If your English is not up to a basic standard, you may be ID checked on the spot.
 +
* 6.4) You are required to make yourself understood through robust emotes during escalation when playing a non-English speaker.
 +

Our server is an RP server, and despite the presence of some concessions in comparison with other servers, the minimum requirements for metagaming are still present.

<br>
 +
* 7.1) You are encouraged to Ahelp with any questions, concerns, requests, or problems.
 +
* 7.2) If an admin redirects you to the discord, or marks your ticket as rejected, or an IC issue, do not get belligerent. There is always a good reason.
 +
* 7.3) Do not spam adminhelp, tickets are dealt with depending on how dire the situation, and then in order. We utilize a Discord bot which forwards Ahelps to discord, however, If you require an admin urgently and there is not one available on the server, do not be afraid to reach out to any staff member by Discord DM or use the ping “@Basic Admin" to get the attention of server staff.
 +
* 7.4) Most reasonable requests are accepted, if your request is rejected then it has been deemed unreasonable.
 +
* 7.5) Do not use Ahelps as a way to have a conversation with the server administration. Ahelps are for urgent requests or questions that require admin attention, and so we do not wish to clutter that chatlog with idle conversation. If you're looking to chat, reach out via DMs on Discord.
 +
* 7.6) 'supercalifragilisticexpialidociousest'. You know what this is for, don't include the apostrophes.
 +
* 7.7) Please be direct in your Ahelp, and ask a question pertaining to your problem other than "I need help" or "Is there anyone online?" Let us know specifically what happened and who is involved in the initial Ahelp.

* 8.1) While this server does host NSFW content, players are encouraged to ask others to opt in to scenes that might make others uncomfortable. Do not engage in a non-consensual scene without express OOC permission from the other party, either from OOC notes in their flavortext or by asking in LOOC.
*The capabilities of your character are determined by his characteristics, and you can TRY to do things like performing surgery, unlike other servers. An exception is if you take away someone’s work, as described in rule 4.

How to avoid Horny Jail.
 +
<br>
 +
* 9.0) Coming onto station expressly to disappear into a private room in maintenance to ERP is not going to be tolerated. If that's your intention, take it to Discord PMs.
 +
* 9.1) Knowingly interrupting an ERP scene without valid IC reasoning is unacceptable. "ERP is cringe" or "this kink is gross" are not valid IC reasonings. Any interruptions to roleplay must be roleplayed in kind and have a firm in-character grounding. You may LOOC your partner to pause your scene and if time allows for it, go back to it. Remember, you can always follow up with a partner after the round via other means! Invalid reasons for interruptions may be met with a scolding, warnings and temporary bans.
 +
** 9.1.1) Valid IC reasoning includes but is not limited to persons participating in the scene committing dereliction of duty, or having previously been involved in escalation, the ship is on red or blue alert, or a traitor has an objective that needs to be fulfilled by interrupting that scene.
 +
** 9.1.2) If you are a Head of Staff, it is doubly required that you perform your job first, ERP later. Your responsibilities on station are great, but your paycheck and insurance more than makes up for a diminished sex life. You should be aware that you may be forced to drop a scene to deal with ship crises at any moment, and that failure to do so may end with a temporary job ban.
 +
* 9.2) There are certain locations on the ship that you can go to ERP with relatively little disturbance. The Bar Private Room, head of staff bedrooms and private dorm rooms are places that are considered protected if none of the criteria of 9.1 are met.
 +
* 9.3) Kinkshaming. As with any game or forum with adult content present players are eventually going to find material that they find personally distasteful. Players are expected to conduct themselves in a mature manner and not target others for the kinks they enjoy. Should one be found harassing another player over their preference in kinks punishments will be handed down.
 +
** 9.3.1) That said, any content expressly forbidden by the Discord terms of service should be brought to the immediate attention of the admin staff. Anyone attempting to hide or cover this content will be considered guilty by association.
 +
* 9.4) The usage of the subtle verb is required for all scenes of sexually explicit content.
 +
* 9.5) Your job comes first. If you are playing a role that has specific duties on the vessel, such as Engineer or Aegis Operative. Those duties must always take priority over ERP.
 +
** 9.5.1) It is expected that you will take steps to ensure that you are able to be reached should an emergency arise. The easiest method of this is by simply leaving your radio headset on and active.
 +
** 9.5.2) This rule is doubly important for Heads of Staff, and any roles that are expected to respond to emergencies. However even if you are a Deckhand/Vagabond, it should not be disregarded.
 +
** 9.5.3) If you are an antagonist, or are made one during the round, completing contracts is considered "a specific duty" for the purpose of these rules. Antagonists are meant to drive conflict in a round, and if you are not completing contracts, then you are negatively impacting the round.
 +
* 9.6) There are three areas where ERP scenes might occur, these are classed as: "Private," "Secluded," and "Public."
 +
** 9.6.1) Private Areas are areas that can be bolted, have no specific IC use, and are obviously not an area where just anyone can walk in on. Areas like the Bar Private Rooms and Heads of Staff quarters are examples of these areas.
 +
*** ERP may occur in these areas, and will not be interrupted without a solid reason.
 +
** 9.6.2) Secluded Areas are areas that could be considered "semi-private." These are areas that cannot be specifically locked, but can reasonably be expected to offer some privacy, but also present the risk of accidental interruption, such as by someone with access moving through in the course of their duties. Areas such as hidden maintenance rooms, the Public Dorms, or the Psychiatrist's office are examples of "Secluded areas."
 +
*** ERP may occur in these areas, however interruptions may occur, and admins are less likely to intervene in such interruptions except when malicious intent is suspected. If you are caught ERPing in a Secluded area, you may be asked to move the activity to a more private area.
 +
** 9.6.3) Public Areas  are all areas that do not fall into the above descriptions, and you can reasonably be expected to be interrupted at any time. If a deckhand can reach the area, it is most likely a public space.
 +
*** ERP is not protected in these spaces at all. Anybody can (and probably should) roleplay intervention on a scene taking place in a public area. If a player happens across one of these and doesn't want to interrupt but also doesn't want to see it, that player should use LOOC to ask them to move. (Note: Bolting a door to a public area or disabling its cameras does not make an area secluded or private, it will just annoy the engineers and make officers curious.)
 +
</div></div>

The engine should be started in an acceptable time frame, people should not die in the medical lobby, while doctors drink tea, and the like. Remember that the life of the entire ship depends on the work of key jobs. Heads and AIs should not exit the game after the start of the round.

 +
Integrity is doing the right thing when no one's looking.
 +
<br>
 +
* 10.1) Players are expected to act in good faith, and to play by the meaning of the rules, not the direct wording. Trying to be a rules lawyer to manipulate the rules to your advantage will not help you. Toeing the line is functionally identical to crossing it.
 +
* 10.2) Do not lie about actions that happened IC to cause OOC punishments, or vice versa.
 +
* 10.3) Do not give someone a reason to attack you ICly then complain OOCly (Either in Ahelps or in OOC/LOOC) when they take you up on the reason you gave them
 +
* 10.4) Do not falsely accuse characters of engaging in non-consensual sexual acts unless that player gives OOC consent. This does not apply to anything non-sexual.

*It's okay if you have a serious reason why you cannot do your job. This is a game about a catastrophe on a spaceship, in the end, and sooner or later something will go wrong. But at the beginning of the round you need to fulfill your duties.
+
Related to both Rule 1 and 2, make your character and play believably.
*Despite the fact that rule 3 allows you to do everything your character is capable of according to characteristics, if you interfere in the work of a living and active department, and do their work for them, you can be punished. Instead of breaking into the chemistry and making the medicine yourself, pay the chemist who sits there.
+
<br>
 +
* 11.1) Do not powergame. Powergaming is defined as using your knowledge of game mechanics to gain an advantage over other players. Some examples of powergaming behaviour include, but are not limited to:
 +
** 11.1.1) Checking known secret stash locations without a note pointing you to them.
 +
** 11.1.2) Stashing equipment / loot / cash somewhere and then respawning to get that equipment on a new character
 +
** 11.1.3) Proactively hunting for antagonists with no reason. Such as forcing people to get body scans when there is no confirmed threat.
 +
** 11.1.4) Actively doing jobs outside of your department’s specialty. While some cross-departmental knowledge is allowed; and this rule may be ignored during low population, or during an emergency when the appropriate department is unmanned. This is still powergaming, and should not be done without a very good reason.
 +
* 11.2) No Mary Sues. Your character does not know how to do everything. For example, it is very unlikely that an Aegis Operative would know how to do surgery. Your character should have strengths and weaknesses, and just because you as a player know how to do something does not mean your character does. (see also: character guidelines)
 +
* 11.3) Do not use game mechanics in a way that is grossly counter to what is realistically possible in the real-world. For example, you should not use an organ from a five-day-old corpse to replace one in a living person.
 +
* 11.4) Do not hoard weapons. Take what you need, and leave the rest for other people. Selling them is one thing, but locking them in a closet and not using them is another.

 +
<br>
 +
* 12.1) Do not attempt to sway the Storyteller or Bluespace Jump vote. Discussing the storyteller options and your opinions on them is fine, but do not attempt to force anyone to vote a certain way, either by threatening to leave/not play, spamming the vote repeatedly until you get the result you want, or other means.
 +
* 12.2) Multikeying is not allowed on our server. If you wish to switch to a new Ckey, please inform staff so that proper permissions (species, items, notes) can be applied to your new ckey.
 +
* 12.3) Do not rejoin the round as any character you have previously played during that round unless given express permission by an admin. Exceptions include if that character left the round early and in good health, and they are merely coming back to work. If you are unsure about if it is okay to rejoin as a character, ahelp it.
 +
* 12.4) Do not metagame. Metagame is using any information that you know as a player in order to gain an advantage over another player. Some examples of Metagaming include using out of game communication like Discord voice chat to communicate with each other, or using knowledge your character doesn't or shouldn't know, such as identifying antags because you saw them while observing.
 +
</div></div>

This greatly complicates the work of the administration and is punished quite seriously. If you want to switch to another account, coordinate this with the server administration.

*13.1) Due to the presence of adult content, an age restriction is enforced. By playing on Eclipse Station or being present in the Discord server, you agree that you are at least 18 years of age and that you have read the rules.
 +
*13.2) If an administrator believes a member to be underage, they must restrict the member’s access to the community and request they follow these steps to verify their age:
 +
** Take a single photo with all of the following visible:
 +
*** A valid government picture ID with date of birth visible.
 +
*** Your face.
 +
*** Your hand-written Byond Ckey or Discord tag (on a piece of paper or otherwise)
 +
* 13.3) You are encouraged to black out all identifying information not required, including your eyes, bridge of your nose, and any fields on your ID which are not required above.
 +
*** 13.3.1) Use full colour fill (full opacity/zero transparency) in an image editing program to do this. Do not use blur, mosaic, or other forms of obfuscation as they do not destroy the data.
 +
* 13.4) Submit the image to a head admin for verification, usually over Discord.
 +
** Delete the image after confirmation of age.
 +
* 13.5) Age verification information will NEVER be saved.
 +
** 13.5.1) We may communicate to the head administrations of other adult-oriented SS13 servers if we determine someone to be potentially underage, and if we then verify such a person is no longer/not actually underage.

Administration Guidelines
These can serve as the basis for complaints, or for internal proceedings.

These rulings are ultimately here as an administrative guideline. They are not meant to be adhered to strictly, and are provided here as a guideline for admins,  and for transparency with the players. They may not always be followed to the letter in any dispute or ruling, as context is always king, and if an admin feels it necessary, they may choose to upgrade or downgrade a punishment. You may always appeal any ban applied on our forums. Admins must make use of the notes system when applying bans, with as much detail as possible.<br><br>

Latest revision as of 03:36, 20 November 2021

Admins apply these rules at their own discretion, and they may ignore the enforcement of specific rules if it is considered necessary.

Discord Rules

These rules apply in Discord, OOC channels, repositories and all sites under our control. IC relations are not governed by these rules, but there is one caveat. Blocking on community platforms can be carried over to the game, and vice versa.

Rules Icon Asshole.png
0) Do not be a dick.

This is a game, and we all came here to enjoy it. Prolonged conflict and toxic behavior are not permitted. Try to be adequate or at least seem so.

Rules Icon Talk.png
1) Keep the channel discussions relevant to the channel's corresponding purpose.

Talking about what you had for lunch should be in #lobby or #kitten-update-channel, not #development-discussion or #staff-contact. No porn outside of #nsfw-general and contain shenanigans to #shitposting. If you are unsure, read the channel's description. Keep all conversations in SFW channels SFW. A few raunchy jokes is okay, but that's it.

Rules Icon Talk.png
2) Do not overly complain about other players or other servers.

If another player is bothering you, talk to them or the staff about it. We're not here to cause misunderstandings with other servers.

Rules Icon Content.png
3) Do not discuss politics here

We’re here to have fun, not cause worldview conflicts and holy wars. There’s as many opinions as there are people, and oh boy, people love to protect them. Sometimes even too much.

Rules Icon ICinOOC.png
4)No OOC in IC/No IC in OOC

Do not discuss events of the current round in any channel. No exceptions. If you need help or have a question - Ahelp it. Ahelps are relayed to staff discord channel and we will see them, even if no staff members are currently present in-game.

Server Rules

These rules apply only in the game itself and are enforced by the administration of the game server.

Rules Icon Asshole.png
0. Do Not Be a Dick.

Cannot be stated enough.

  • 0.1) Do not use slurs both IC, and OOC.
  • 0.2) Do not get heated or be constantly negative in OOC or deadchat with others or about situations.
  • 0.3) Do not get argumentative with server staff. If you have a complaint about a specific Admin, feel a ruling was unfair, or feel one or more of our rules are either too strict or too lenient. You may message another admin privately about the situation, but do not take your issues to inappropriate places, such as deadchat, OOC, discord channels, etc.
  • 0.4) Do not spam OOC.
  • 0.5) Do not advertise or slander other servers.
  • 0.6) Do not share conversations or player information from this server externally without permission. This includes OOC, Ahelps, and any other communication. What happens on the server is to remain on the server, our discord, or our forums for the protection of everyone's privacy.
  • 0.7) Any violation of the Discord TOS will not be tolerated under any circumstances. This includes but is not limited to; illegal or fraudulent conduct, violation of copyright, password phishing, libel/defamation, and promoting illegal activities.
  • 0.8) Do not discuss politics here. We’re here to have fun, not cause worldview conflicts and holy wars. There’s as many opinions as there are people, and oh boy, people love to protect them. Sometimes even too much. Definitely can not be said enough.
Rules Icon Immersion.png
1) Eclipse is a Heavy Roleplay Server.

You are expected to hold yourself to certain standards here when it comes to character creation and your interactions on server. For guidance, see: Character Guidelines.

  • 1.1) All rounds are canon, unless stated otherwise by an admin. A specific situation within a round may be declared non-canon if all players involved agree. Antagonists are an exception to this rule, and are detailed in section 5, below.
  • 1.2) You are expected to RP first and foremost, and to uphold the suspension of disbelief and play a character that could believably be found in a semi-realistic science fiction setting. Furry characters and odd aliens are allowed, as are humans.
  • 1.3) Name your character appropriate for an HRP server. Reference names are allowed, if you're clever enough about it. If we can readily discover your reference, it wasn't clever enough and you will be forced to change it. This is not an excuse for Low RP.
  • 1.4) Do not break immersion for other players. While SS13 can and does sometimes play fast and loose with the “Fourth Wall,” that doesn’t mean you have to.
  • 1.5) You are encouraged to build cross round relationships with other characters, you are allowed to remember each other between rounds.
    • 1.5.1) If your character dies during the round and is not revived in-game, you may choose to be restored from a “backup” stored on the ship, though your character will not remember the events of the round in question.
    • 1.5.2) Do not OOCly meta-grudge other players, or let your OOC feelings for a player affect your IC actions. Do not escalate to lethal as a result of events from past rounds; it must have grounding in IC reasoning from the current round.
  • 1.6) Do not commit suicide as a means to exit the round. If you feel that suiciding is a justified reaction to something occurring in a round, please ask for permission from staff.
  • 1.7) A base level of competency in your selected job is expected. This does not mean you need to be “good” at your job, but your competency, or lack thereof should not directly put the ship or crew at risk. A captain who panics under fire is acceptable, an engineer who unintentionally delaminates the Supermatter is not.
  • 1.8) You are expected to do the job you signed up to do.
Rules Icon Hammer.png
2) Abusing In-Game Mechanics.

The use of exploits, bugs, or quirks of the mechanics of SS13 to gain an unfair advantage over other players.

  • 2.1) Do not IC in OOC, do not OOC in IC.
  • 2.2) Do not make use of exploits. If you find an exploit, report it immediately.
  • 2.3) Do not interfere with SSD or AFK (Sudden Sleep Disorder or Away From Keyboard) players in any way unless you are an antagonist with an objective that specifically targets the person. It is recommended that you move any SSD crewmen to either Cryostorage or the dorms. Do not pull hostile mobs to SSD's intentionally, and do not move them out of shelter once they are safe.
    • 2.3.1) If you need to leave the game or AFK for longer than 30 minutes, it is recommended that you place yourself in Cryostorage, as not doing ties up job slots for others who may wish to play, and can mess with antagonist objectives. This is doubly important if you are playing a role with limited (three or fewer) job slots, such as Aegis Specialists, or Heads of Staff.
    • 2.3.2) If you are an antagonist and your target is SSD, it is required that you notify an admin via Ahelp of the situation before acting on it. If it is not clearly obvious that the target has left the round (i.e. they're not in a bed, or were active a short time ago) then you must wait for an admin response, or until it's clear that the target isn't returning.
  • 2.4) Do not use your knowledge of game mechanics to intentionally ruin the enjoyment of other players indirectly.
  • 2.5) Do not ghost, log out or suicide to avoid roleplay after being captured by an antagonist or by Aegis, being captured is a risk you take when playing on server, and you must be prepared to deal with it. If you do not wish to engage in roleplay with those that have captured you, you may make a request in LOOC to be executed instead.
  • 2.6) Do not respawn as the same character once your character has been killed, do not respawn as any relation or friend of your dead character as an excuse to continue escalation once your character has been killed.
  • 2.7) Actions that would leave a player with no way to be revived are prohibited unless you are a traitor whose objectives demand it.
Rules Icon murder.png
3) Escalation Guidelines.

Guidelines to follow when it's time to fight.

  • 3.0) Escalation of violence is the expectation that you, as a player on a roleplaying server, will engage in / react to violence in a manner that is believable and proportionate to the situation, and not simply kill everyone who crosses you like an unhinged psychopath.
    • 3.0.1) The rules on escalation of violence are here to ensure that our server can maintain the highest standard of roleplay. While they may not be appropriate to every situation or engagement, you should try to follow them where possible. Talking out encounters is always going to be more interesting than shooting them out, and gives other players a chance to get involved and take their own sides. This is doubly true for Aegis Security players.
  • 3.1) Escalation of violence is recommended in all situations, regardless of faction. You are here to roleplay, not click each other horizontal. Murder should always be your last resort, not your immediate answer to any threat. In short, do not valid hunt and do not gank people.
  • 3.2) Escalation is maintained between encounters. However, you should make it clear that you are re-engaging. You should not break away from an engagement, and re-engage wordlessly several minutes later to gain an advantage.
  • 3.3) For more in depth guidelines on escalation, use of force, and appropriate response, see Escalation.
Rules Icon NAP.png
4) Confinement and Capturing.

You've taken your hostage, you caught the bad guy, now what?

  • 4.1) If you have captured someone, you are expected to roleplay with them or get them to an area where they can be processed accordingly (for example, the Aegis Brig, the Merc ship, etc).
    • 4.1.1) You may not leave someone confined to an area alone for an extended period of time.
    • 4.1.2) If Aegis deems it necessary to permanently brig a player, permission must by obtained by an administrator to enact the sentence.
    • 4.1.3) It is expected that the detainee must not break in-character immersion by engaging in bad sportsmanship or low-roleplay misbehavior. If you make it clear you have no intention to roleplay out the encounter you open yourself up to field execution depending on severity.
Rules Icon Drama Hungry Idiot.png
5) Antagonistic Characters.

For when it is time to be a Ne'er-Do-Well.

  • 5.1) Antagonists should take the time to read over the Escalation Guidelines again.
  • 5.2) If you are made into an antagonist during the round, suicide to escape roleplay is not permitted. Man Up, And Deal With It. Move On. If you absolutely cannot handle it, this probably isn't the right server for you.
    • 5.2.1) If you are converted by Excelsior during the round, you may use their teleporter to “mobilize” yourself as a means to leave the round if you do not wish to play as an Antagonist.
    • 5.2.2) Excelsior implants are mind control, and make your character an enthusiastic participant in the communist revolution, this is a non-negotiable requirement, as attempting to undermine the implants, or work against Excelsior after being converted is poor roleplay and will be met with strict admin intervention.
  • 5.3) Antagonists are considered “Fuzzy-Canon.” This means that the events of the round are canon, but the individual players may not be. For example, if Joe the bartender is made into an Excelsior, who you later kill. You may remember killing a bartender who turned out to be an Excelsior traitor, but it was NOT Joe.
    • 5.3.1) An exception to this is if the Antagonist declares that these actions are canon in OOC. In this case normal rules of Canon apply.
    • 5.3.2) In the event of a total antagonist victory, such as Excelsior rebels taking over the ship, or a Carrion killing or converting everyone aboard. The round shall be declared non-canon, though individual scenes may be remembered if all participants agree.
  • 5.4) Your antagonist role is your job, and as explained both in rule 1.8 and 9.5, it is expected that this job comes first. Of course the need for caution if you are trying not to be discovered means you may need to take roundabout methods, but you should be working towards a goal.
Rules Icon Talk.png
6) Communication.

Roleplaying is, after all, an exercise in the fine art of communication.

  • 6.1) While this is an English speaking server, you are allowed to speak other languages in character.
  • 6.2) If you are unable to communicate in English OOCly, you will be disinvited from the server.
  • 6.3) If your English is not up to a basic standard, you may be ID checked on the spot.
  • 6.4) You are required to make yourself understood through robust emotes during escalation when playing a non-English speaker.
Rules Icon Talk.png
7) Adminhelps.

Conduct and things to keep in mind when reaching out to an admin.

  • 7.1) You are encouraged to Ahelp with any questions, concerns, requests, or problems.
  • 7.2) If an admin redirects you to the discord, or marks your ticket as rejected, or an IC issue, do not get belligerent. There is always a good reason.
  • 7.3) Do not spam adminhelp, tickets are dealt with depending on how dire the situation, and then in order. We utilize a Discord bot which forwards Ahelps to discord, however, If you require an admin urgently and there is not one available on the server, do not be afraid to reach out to any staff member by Discord DM or use the ping “@Basic Admin" to get the attention of server staff.
  • 7.4) Most reasonable requests are accepted, if your request is rejected then it has been deemed unreasonable.
  • 7.5) Do not use Ahelps as a way to have a conversation with the server administration. Ahelps are for urgent requests or questions that require admin attention, and so we do not wish to clutter that chatlog with idle conversation. If you're looking to chat, reach out via DMs on Discord.
  • 7.6) 'supercalifragilisticexpialidociousest'. You know what this is for, don't include the apostrophes.
  • 7.7) Please be direct in your Ahelp, and ask a question pertaining to your problem other than "I need help" or "Is there anyone online?" Let us know specifically what happened and who is involved in the initial Ahelp.
Rules Icon Ok.png
8) Consent.

No means no. If you're unsure about it, watch this.

  • 8.1) While this server does host NSFW content, players are encouraged to ask others to opt in to scenes that might make others uncomfortable. Do not engage in a non-consensual scene without express OOC permission from the other party, either from OOC notes in their flavortext or by asking in LOOC.
  • 8.2) At any time, you may choose to opt out of a scene that contains sexual or sensitive content. If a player requests to break off from a scene, do so IMMEDIATELY. Failure to comply will not be tolerated.
Rules Icon ERP.png
9) 18+ Content.

How to avoid Horny Jail.

  • 9.0) Coming onto station expressly to disappear into a private room in maintenance to ERP is not going to be tolerated. If that's your intention, take it to Discord PMs.
  • 9.1) Knowingly interrupting an ERP scene without valid IC reasoning is unacceptable.
    • 9.1.1) Valid IC reasoning includes but is not limited to persons participating in the scene committing dereliction of duty, or having previously been involved in escalation, the ship is on red or blue alert, or a traitor has an objective that needs to be fulfilled by interrupting that scene.
    • 9.1.2) If you are a Head of Staff, it is doubly required that you perform your job first, ERP later. Your responsibilities on station are great, but your paycheck and insurance more than makes up for a diminished sex life. You should be aware that you may be forced to drop a scene to deal with ship crises at any moment, and that failure to do so may end with a temporary job ban.
  • 9.2) There are certain locations on the ship that you can go to ERP with relatively little disturbance. The Bar Private Room, head of staff bedrooms and private dorm rooms are places that are considered protected if none of the criteria of 9.1 are met.
  • 9.3) Kinkshaming. As with any game or forum with adult content present players are eventually going to find material that they find personally distasteful. Players are expected to conduct themselves in a mature manner and not target others for the kinks they enjoy. Should one be found harassing another player over their preference in kinks punishments will be handed down.
    • 9.3.1) That said, any content expressly forbidden by the Discord terms of service should be brought to the immediate attention of the admin staff. Anyone attempting to hide or cover this content will be considered guilty by association.
  • 9.4) The usage of the subtle verb is required for all scenes of sexually explicit content.
  • 9.5) Your job comes first. If you are playing a role that has specific duties on the vessel, such as Engineer or Aegis Operative. Those duties must always take priority over ERP.
    • 9.5.1) It is expected that you will take steps to ensure that you are able to be reached should an emergency arise. The easiest method of this is by simply leaving your radio headset on and active.
    • 9.5.2) This rule is doubly important for Heads of Staff, and any roles that are expected to respond to emergencies. However even if you are a Deckhand/Vagabond, it should not be disregarded.
    • 9.5.3) If you are an antagonist, or are made one during the round, completing contracts is considered "a specific duty" for the purpose of these rules. Antagonists are meant to drive conflict in a round, and if you are not completing contracts, then you are negatively impacting the round.
  • 9.6) There are three areas where ERP scenes might occur, these are classed as: "Private," "Secluded," and "Public."
    • 9.6.1) Private Areas are areas that can be bolted, have no specific IC use, and are obviously not an area where just anyone can walk in on. Areas like the Bar Private Rooms and Heads of Staff quarters are examples of these areas.
      • ERP may occur in these areas, and will not be interrupted without a solid reason.
    • 9.6.2) Secluded Areas are areas that could be considered "semi-private." These are areas that cannot be specifically locked, but can reasonably be expected to offer some privacy, but also present the risk of accidental interruption, such as by someone with access moving through in the course of their duties. Areas such as hidden maintenance rooms, the Public Dorms, or the Psychiatrist's office are examples of "Secluded areas."
      • ERP may occur in these areas, however interruptions may occur, and admins are less likely to intervene in such interruptions except when malicious intent is suspected. If you are caught ERPing in a Secluded area, you may be asked to move the activity to a more private area.
    • 9.6.3) Public Areas are all areas that do not fall into the above descriptions, and you can reasonably be expected to be interrupted at any time. If a deckhand can reach the area, it is most likely a public space.
      • ERP is not protected in these spaces at all.
Rules Icon Structure.png
10) Good Faith.

Integrity is doing the right thing when no one's looking.

  • 10.1) Players are expected to act in good faith, and to play by the meaning of the rules, not the direct wording. Trying to be a rules lawyer to manipulate the rules to your advantage will not help you. Toeing the line is functionally identical to crossing it.
  • 10.2) Do not lie about actions that happened IC to cause OOC punishments, or vice versa.
  • 10.3) Do not give someone a reason to attack you ICly then complain OOCly (Either in Ahelps or in OOC/LOOC) when they take you up on the reason you gave them
  • 10.4) Do not falsely accuse characters of engaging in non-consensual sexual acts unless that player gives OOC consent. This does not apply to anything non-sexual.
Rules Icon Jobs.png
11) Powergaming.

Related to both Rule 1 and 2, make your character and play believably.

  • 11.1) Do not powergame. Powergaming is defined as using your knowledge of game mechanics to gain an advantage over other players. Some examples of powergaming behaviour include, but are not limited to:
    • 11.1.1) Checking known secret stash locations without a note pointing you to them.
    • 11.1.2) Stashing equipment / loot / cash somewhere and then respawning to get that equipment on a new character
    • 11.1.3) Proactively hunting for antagonists with no reason. Such as forcing people to get body scans when there is no confirmed threat.
    • 11.1.4) Actively doing jobs outside of your department’s specialty. While some cross-departmental knowledge is allowed; and this rule may be ignored during low population, or during an emergency when the appropriate department is unmanned. This is still powergaming, and should not be done without a very good reason.
  • 11.2) No Mary Sues. Your character does not know how to do everything. For example, it is very unlikely that an Aegis Operative would know how to do surgery. Your character should have strengths and weaknesses, and just because you as a player know how to do something does not mean your character does. (see also: character guidelines)
  • 11.3) Do not use game mechanics in a way that is grossly counter to what is realistically possible in the real-world. For example, you should not use an organ from a five-day-old corpse to replace one in a living person.
  • 11.4) Do not hoard weapons. Take what you need, and leave the rest for other people. Selling them is one thing, but locking them in a closet and not using them is another.
Rules Icon Observe.png
12) Miscellaneous.

Rules that didn't fit in other sections, but are still important.

  • 12.1) Do not attempt to sway the Storyteller or Bluespace Jump vote. Discussing the storyteller options and your opinions on them is fine, but do not attempt to force anyone to vote a certain way, either by threatening to leave/not play, spamming the vote repeatedly until you get the result you want, or other means.
  • 12.2) Multikeying is not allowed on our server. If you wish to switch to a new Ckey, please inform staff so that proper permissions (species, items, notes) can be applied to your new ckey.
  • 12.3) Do not rejoin the round as any character you have previously played during that round unless given express permission by an admin. Exceptions include if that character left the round early and in good health, and they are merely coming back to work. If you are unsure about if it is okay to rejoin as a character, ahelp it.
  • 12.4) Do not metagame. Metagame is using any information that you know as a player in order to gain an advantage over another player. Some examples of Metagaming include using out of game communication like Discord voice chat to communicate with each other, or using knowledge your character doesn't or shouldn't know, such as identifying antags because you saw them while observing.
Rules Icon Ok.png
13) Age Verification.

If you're asked to verify your age, you'll be sent to this section.

  • 13.1) Due to the presence of adult content, an age restriction is enforced. By playing on Eclipse Station or being present in the Discord server, you agree that you are at least 18 years of age and that you have read the rules.
  • 13.2) If an administrator believes a member to be underage, they must restrict the member’s access to the community and request they follow these steps to verify their age:
    • Take a single photo with all of the following visible:
      • A valid government picture ID with date of birth visible.
      • Your face.
      • Your hand-written Byond Ckey or Discord tag (on a piece of paper or otherwise)
  • 13.3) You are encouraged to black out all identifying information not required, including your eyes, bridge of your nose, and any fields on your ID which are not required above.
      • 13.3.1) Use full colour fill (full opacity/zero transparency) in an image editing program to do this. Do not use blur, mosaic, or other forms of obfuscation as they do not destroy the data.
  • 13.4) Submit the image to a head admin for verification, usually over Discord.
    • Delete the image after confirmation of age.
  • 13.5) Age verification information will NEVER be saved.
    • 13.5.1) We may communicate to the head administrations of other adult-oriented SS13 servers if we determine someone to be potentially underage, and if we then verify such a person is no longer/not actually underage.
Rules Icon Hammer.png
14) Ban Appeals.

So you managed to catch the fabled Banhammer right to the noggin, now what?.

  • 14.1) Unless specifically noted by an admin when the ban is issued, any ban may be appealed.
  • 14.2) All ban appeals must be posted on our forum, and must follow the template provided in the “Ban Appeals” sub-forum.
  • 14.3) Appeals are reviewed by the entire staff team, who are free to offer their thoughts, suggestions, and opinions. However final say on any appeal is left to the issuing admin.
    • 14.3.1) A ban appeal decision may be overruled by a higher ranked admin. However this will only be done in very extreme circumstances.
    • 14.3.2) Fishing for a higher level admin to overturn your appeal decision without a VERY good reason is an excellent way to get your ban upgraded to a “No Appeal Ban.”

New Player Application Form

Rules Icon Advice.png
New Player Application Form

If your Byond account is less than 6 months old. You will be asked to fill out this form and PM it to an administrator on Discord. This is not a player wall, It's our way to make sure all players know what RP is and would enjoy the experience we offer. Usually everyone gets accepted.

  • Your CKey:
  • Your age:
  • Your experience with SS13:
  • Your experience with RP in general:

Administration Guidelines

These rulings are ultimately here as an administrative guideline. They are not meant to be adhered to strictly, and are provided here as a guideline for admins, and for transparency with the players. They may not always be followed to the letter in any dispute or ruling, as context is always king, and if an admin feels it necessary, they may choose to upgrade or downgrade a punishment. You may always appeal any ban applied on our forums. Admins must make use of the notes system when applying bans, with as much detail as possible.

Note: Remember that toeing the line is functionally identical to crossing the line. If you didn't 'technically' break the rules, that's not going to protect you.
